April Game Day

Sadly, Alex wasn’t feeling well today, so we dropped from 6 to 4 players.  As a result we changed the plans for the day except for the first game, which was already set up and ready to go.

We started with Flash Point with the 2nd Story expansion - a two story building with more limited ability to use the deck gun.  We thought we were toast for sure, especially with Dave’s horrific deck gun rolls, but lucky rolls placing the victims and good sprinting by Rick to save them turned the tide and we won by the skin of our teeth.  We were definitely pumped.  I also have expansions to add two more stories, a subway fire, an airplane fire and more.

Next we played all the way through Nations with 4 (two who had never seen it before).  It took a lot longer than it will after we have fully climbed up the learning curve.  My opinion about this game has not changed - it is a far better game for FTF play than Through the Ages.  TtA won’t be leaving my collection, but it will see most of its play on-line where the down-time doesn’t matter.

We finished the day by playing 1/3 of the way through Panamax, mostly to learn the mechanics and to see if we liked it.  Of the three of us left, we had three thumbs up.  Although the mechanics are Euro-ish and sound, it implements the theme really well and has just a whiff of 18XX in it.  I “taught” it based on just what I learned during a 2/3 game learning session at BGG@sea, so I am now going to go back and read the rules from cover to cover and find out what we did wrong :-)

The next game day is presently scheduled for 5/16.  Please let me know if you will be able to make it.  The theme for the month is card games.  I will send out a voting list later.
