In response to Joshua's comment, and in no particular order:
Gravwell:
1. Would I buy it now if I already hadn’t? Yes
2. Would I play if asked? Yes
3. Am I going to get rid of it out of my collection? No
4. Weight: Right on the border between filler and super filler - very simple mechanic but some agonizing decisions
5. Comment: A good example of a game concept stripped down to the bare necessities - the opposite of a victory point salad euro.
Eminent Domain:
1. Would I buy it now if I already hadn’t? Yes. I’ve already purchased the expansion
2. Would I play if asked? Yes
3. Am I going to get rid of it out of my collection? No
4. Weight: Mid-weight
5. Comment: All this is based on reading the rules and observing one game being played. Others state that Glory to Rome is the most similar, but ED is less chaotic. Also has touches of Dominion, Race for the Galaxy and Core Worlds. Steep learning curve reported, but that may have been situational (nobody in the game was familiar with it).
Trains:
1. Would I buy it now if I already hadn’t? Yes
2. Would I play if asked? Yes
3. Am I going to get rid of it out of my collection? No
4. Weight: Light weight
5. Comment: Dominion with a train theme and a board where victory points can be obtained in addition to the “green cards” (which are yellow in Trains). I found the play to actually be smoother than Dominion, probably because of fewer combinations and permutations to consider. Curses (called “waste" in Trains) flow into one’s hand constantly, but are also much easier to be rid of.
Blueprints:
1. Would I buy it now if I already hadn’t? Probably not
2. Would I play if asked? Yes
3. Am I going to get rid of it out of my collection? Not at this point
4. Weight: Superfiller
5. Comment: Some interesting concepts and a very unique theme, but it just didn’t grab me. This may need more plays to see if there is something there that I’m missing. I feel like I lack control. I wonder if it might be better with 3?
Chaos:
1. Would I buy it now if I already hadn’t? Not sure. How many card games does one need?
2. Would I play if asked? Yes
3. Am I going to get rid of it out of my collection? No
4. Weight: Filler
5. Comment: Old Maid, Go Fish, and War, with some new ideas as well. Steep but short learning curve. Once it clicks it’s speedy. Totally abstract. It is definitely better than Fluxx, for example. And deeper than Uno. Probably more plays are needed on this one as well.
